SURVIVAL / BUSHCRAFT When working in the great outdoors, whether it is planned or not, you WILL NEED a knife. On this page we are seeking out and putting into place designs that best fit this need. Of course there are other knives on the other pages that can perform many of these functions also, but these have been designed to focus mainly on the wilderness experience. Many of them will perform quite well as hunting or camping knives also. Most of the base priced knives in this category are A2 Tool steel or 154cm stainless steel. When it comes to the larger knives 5160 truck spring steel is our base priced steel because of its toughness. But we also understand that many situations demand the rust resistant quality of stainless steel, so we have narrowed our offering down to two of the best around. 154CM is a great steel that does a great job and normally would be all you would need, but I realize that many like the modern particle steels and their added qualities of more toughness and edge retention, so we offer one of the very best in CPM S35VN. It is the updated version of CPM S30V and it truly is an improvement that is sure to be noticed. In order to keep our prices down we offer most of these knives in their basic configuration without a hilt/guard, but you can get one on most of these knives as an option. They are hand made and require a good bit of extra work on the blank as well as building the hilt and installing it. We offer 4 basic tough metals for this: brass, 1018 steel, 416 stainless steel, and nickel silver. The standard handles are Micarta or G10 and are held on by hollow or solid pins and epoxy. There are bolts and screws available as options on most of them. There are different ways people like to carry their knives, so we have been working on a sheath system that is multi-carry. We now offer it in a Kydex / Leather hybrid and an all Leather model. This sheath can be carried horizontally or vertically as well as strapped to web gear or a hiking pack. It is versatile in other ways also with the vertical carry loop that can be removed and serve as a strop. Also you can attach our optional special attachments to the front of it to give you a sharpening system and/or a firestarter and/or a small survival tin that has a convex sharpening system in it. Much attention to detail has been given to these knives and the quality is right up there with some of the best around, but we have tried to keep our prices in range for a wide customer audience. Check them out below and see if one will fit your needs. (Click picture or link below for details and larger view.)
